Hearts and Crafts Indie Craft Market is an ever-evolving art and craft marketplace with a focus on local emerging talent within the handmade movement. Since the very first event, hosted at Java’s Cafe in February 2010, it has expanded to include several seasonal market events, and additional pop-up events throughout the year.
Java’s Cafe has been so kind as to host Hearts and Crafts from day one, and we’ve found it a perfect venue for our mission of making indie craft accessible to the broader community. Its location in downtown Rochester, right next door to the Eastman School of Music, makes it a hub for all sorts of creative-minded, eclectic folk. The cafe has been a flexible setting throughout the year: Our winter markets, held inside the cafe, are small and cozy; in the warmer months, our vendors fill the sidewalks of Gibbs Street.
In recent months, in addition to our regular markets, opportunity has led us to expand the vision of Hearts and Crafts to include a “let’s take the show on the road” approach, in which we’ve provided a Hearts and Crafts-esque marketplace in conjunction with other businesses, events, and collectives in the area.
